“I’m not good enough to run a ministry.”
“What if no one likes it?”
“I could spend this time building a business that actually makes money.”
“It’s not ready for anyone to see.”
I can’t tell you how many times those thoughts have run through my mind.
For years, I’ve felt God planting the seed for this ministry in my heart. And for years, I found reasons to wait.
I told myself I needed more time. More knowledge. A better website. A clearer plan. Maybe I needed to accomplish a few other things first.
But underneath all those excuses was something much simpler:
Fear.
And fear has a way of making disobedience sound reasonable.
The strange thing is that whenever I opened my Bible, the vision felt closer. Whenever I spent time seeking God or heard His Word preached, the excuses that seemed so convincing suddenly didn't seem quite as powerful.
Why?
Because I was no longer focused on the lies.
I was focused on the Truth.
Jesus said:
“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:31–32 (ESV)
In context, Jesus is talking about something much bigger than overcoming insecurity. He is talking about truly following Him, abiding in His Word, and the freedom that comes through Him.
And that's exactly where I needed to be.
Not focused on whether I felt qualified.
Not focused on whether people would like what I built.
Not focused on whether something else could make more money.
Not even focused on whether everything was perfect.
Focused on Jesus.
Paul told Timothy:
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV)
And I love what comes immediately before that verse. Paul tells Timothy to “fan into flame the gift of God.”
Don't bury what God has entrusted to you because you're afraid.
Don't wait for fear to disappear before you're willing to obey.
Don't let the opinions of people become louder than the voice of God through His Word.
Paul writes elsewhere:
“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”
Galatians 5:1 (ESV)
Paul was specifically warning believers not to return to bondage by relying on the law for justification. But the truth at the center of his words is powerful:
Christ did not set us free so that we could willingly walk back into bondage.
For me, fear had become a set of chains.
Maybe you've got your own.
Maybe there's something you've felt God calling you toward, but you've convinced yourself you're not ready.
Maybe you don't feel talented enough.
Qualified enough.
Knowledgeable enough.
Maybe you're afraid you'll fail.
Here's what I'm learning:
You don't need to have everything figured out before you start seeking God and obeying what He has shown you.
Jesus said:
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
Matthew 7:7 (ESV)
So that's what I'm doing.
I'm asking.
I'm seeking.
I'm knocking.
And most importantly, I'm finally moving.
This ministry isn't perfect. I don't have every detail figured out. I don't know exactly what God will do with it.
But I'm done letting fear decide whether I obey.
If God has placed something on your heart, don't start by asking whether you're good enough.
Start by seeking Him.
Open His Word. Pray. Ask for wisdom. Test what you believe against Scripture. Surround yourself with godly counsel.
And when God makes the next step clear—
take it.
For years, I thought I needed to be ready before I started.
Maybe sometimes faith looks like admitting:
I'm not ready. But God is still worthy of my yes.
